Using and Interpreting perfSONAR
perfSONAR Data Overview
perfSONAR collects a variety of network measurements from a variety of vantage points. perfSONAR can be used to:
- Collect passive data (via the ESxSNMP or Cacti tools) from network devices that speak SNMP
- Collect active data on one way latency, packet loss, packet duplication, and packet jitter, via the OWAMP tool
- Collect active data on network throughout (TCP and UDP) from the BWCTL, iperf, iperf3, and nuttcp tools
- Collect active data on routing via the traceroute and tracepath tools
Each subsection will describe a way that the user can interact with the perfSONAR data either via graphical or programmatic methods.
